p_bigcotton2Big & Little Cottonwood Canyons
Utah's Big Cottonwood Canyon and Little Cottonwood Canyon are the best kept secrets in Ski Resorts Utah. Offering beautiful powder snow and exceptional ski conditions, the ski resorts of Solitude and Brighton in Big Cottonwood Canyon and Alta Ski Resort and Snowbird Ski Resort in Little Cottonwood Canyon are just minutes from The 1887 Hansen House.

Deemed too environmentally fragile to host the 2002 Winter Olympics, the ski resorts of the Cottonwood Canyons have much smaller crowds than nearby Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain with the same luxurious skiing! Utah Skiing has been known to have some of the best snow in the Rockies, deemed “The Greatest Snow On Earth®”. The combination of condensation blowing across the Great Salt Lake into the Cottonwood Canyons, heavy winds before storms, and salt dust which produces nuclei for ice crystals, creates the perfect snow for skiing. About 500 inches of snow are dumped into the area southeast of Great Salt Lake, more than Aspen’s 300, Sun Valley’s 220 and Deer Valley’s 300 annual-inch snow falls.

Each ski resort in the Cottonwood Canyons has a unique personality, yet they are all in the same vicinity. It’s the best of both worlds; four special and distinct Ski Resorts In Utah all within minutes of each other and only 20 minutes from The 1887 Hansen House!

Snowbird
Snowbird Ski Resort is the closest Utah Ski Resort to The 1887 Hansen House and is a full-service, family resort. Snowbird is Utah’s ski version of Hawaii’s North Shore. Skiers and snowboarders love pushing themselves on the nearly 3,000-foot vertically steep bowls and tree-lined chutes. The 125-passenger Aeriel Tram takes you from 8,100 feet, at the base of Snowbird, to Snowbird’s 11,000 foot Hidden Peak and infamous 21.5-mile Chip’s Run in 8 minutes.

With 15 restaurants, five bars, children’s camp, spa, four lodges, five pools, biking and hiking trails, Snowbird is a happening year-round resort. Snowbird’s 85 runs, 11 lifts, excellent ski school and family oriented skiing are a sure pleaser for the whole family

Alta
Alta Ski Area shares Little Cottonwood Canyon with Snowbird Ski Resort and receives an annual average of 514 feet of snow. One of the oldest ski resorts in the nation, Alta was founded in 1871. Alta’s slogan of “The Greatest Snow on Earth®” is in reference to the ski area’s 2200 acres of skiing with an exhilarating vertical gain of 2,020 feet. Alta Ski Resort does not allow snowboarders, making for some unhappy snowboarders and very happy skiers. Alta Ski Area has 13 lifts, known to be much slower than nearby Snowbird’s lifts, and features over 121 runs. Alta is the perfect resort for the intermediate skier and better yet, Alta and Snowbird now offer a joint day pass and joint season ticket to allow skiers access to the terrain of both Little Cottonwood Canyon mountains. The offer is good for skiers only because of Alta’s no snowboarder policy.

Brighton
Big Cottonwood Canyon remains the more ‘undiscovered’ of the two canyons, but word is getting out that Brighton Ski Resort and Solitude Ski Resort feature virtually no lift lines or large crowds and fresh ski conditions even in the afternoon! Brighton Ski Area has the lowest lift tickets prices in the region and is the perfect place for those wanting good ole-fashioned skiing without all the hype, glitter, traffic and high prices of other Utah Ski Resorts.

Solitude
The name is just a glimpse of what awaits you at this European-styled pedestrian Utah Ski Resort. Calm and peaceful slopes greet happy skiers and snowboarders who discover this Utah Ski Resort gem. With 1,200 acres of wide-open bowls, tree runs, steep chutes and gentle, groomed slopes, Solitude Ski Resort is the perfect ski destination for the whole family. Solitude features 64 runs and 8 lifts that will feel like your own as the crowds are considerable less than other Ski Resorts In Utah.
