Heber Valley Historic Railroad
Heber Valley is a gorgeous backcountry, rural wilderness area located between the Wasatch and Uinta mountain ranges. Spotted with lakes, trout streams and golf courses, Heber Valley is a dairy and mining community that also enjoys year-round visitors who come to area because of its unique beauty and ideal location only 20 miles south of  the Park City Utah Ski area, 50 miles southeast of Salt Lake City Attractions and 36 miles southeast of The 1887 Hansen House.

Perhaps the most popular attraction in Heber Valley is the historic Heber Valley Railroad and its scenic 16 miles of track. To experience some of Utah’s most spectacular mountain scenery, take a ride in the 1920s restored coach cars or open-air cars pulled by historic engine #618 from 1907. The Heber Valley Historic Railroad takes passengers on a three and a half hour ride and often features seasonally themed rides, such as the Polar Express Heber Railroad. Starting at the Train Depot in Heber City and traveling southwest to Vivian Park in Provo Canyon, the Heber City Railroad first journeys through the fields of Heber Valley and then runs along the shore of the Deer Creek Lake Reservoir. From the reservoir, Heber Railroad passes the reservoir dam head and descends into Provo Canyon where sightings of deer, eagles, fox, moose, turkeys, hawks, mountain lions, beavers and bald eagles are common. For 7 miles, Heber Railroad follows Provo River, a favorite among fly fishers due to its crystal blue-green waters and abundant trout.

Heber Valley Historic Railroad is a heritage railroad that was originally part of the Denver & Rio Grande Western line. The Heber City Railroad was completed in 1899 and hauled freight, livestock and passengers between Provo and Heber until 1967. In 1970, the line was reopened for tourist use and was known as the Heber Creeper Railroad. In the late 1980s, Heber Creeper went out of business and in the 1990s, Heber City citizens successfully petitioned the State of Utah to save the railroad through the Heber Valley Historic Railroad Authority. Today, Heber Valley Historic Railroad is a successful non-profit organization operated by the State of Utah and delights over 94,000 passengers a year. A must-see for all railroad lovers and a wonderful family outing, Heber Creeper Railroad is a one-one-a-kind scenic heritage railroad. Also in this area, the highway paralleling the railroad branches off to Robert Redford’s resort. Scenes from the blockbuster film, “A River Runs Through It,” were filmed in this area using Heber Valley Railroad’s historic Number 75 steam engine.

Heber Valley Historic Railroad is open year-round. Be sure to check for special event and evening train rides. Although the main depot is in Heber City, there are other passenger terminals at Soldier Hollow (near Midway Utah) and Vivian Park.
