The Living Planet Aquarium
The Living Planet Aquarium was founded in 1997 by marine biologist Brent Andersen. Opened in 2004 as a temporary exhibit in the Gateway Mall, the Preview Exhibit of The Living Planet Aquarium was a 10,000 square foot exhibit featuring freshwater animals and marine life. Popularity was so high that the exhibit relocated to Sandy Utah in the summer of 2006. Just down the road from the Hansen House in Salt Lake Utah, this 43,000 square foot Utah Aquarium is a must-see during your Utah vacation. The Aquarium Sandy Utah now enjoys 250,000 visitors per year and features many educational and community oriented programs.

p_aquariumToday, Living Aquarium Utah features four major exhibits. The Utah Waters Galley includes creatures native to Utah including Tiger Salamanders, June Suckers, Least Chubs, Lake, Rainbow and Tiger Trout, and Boreal and Red-Spotted Toads. Utah Wetlands similarly features species from Utah’s three wetland ecosystems, namely pond and lake marsh species, Great Salt Lake Estuary species, and species from vernal pools and potholes. The Open Ocean exhibit offers visitors the chance to view Moray Eels, Moon Jellies, Sea Nettles, Upside Down Jellies, Giant Pacific Octopus, and Northern Lobsters. The Coral Reef exhibit has Seahorses and Lionfish, and children love to touch the Southern Stingrays at the Touch Pool. Perhaps the most popular exhibit is the Shark Tank. With White-tip Reef Sharks, Leopard Sharks and Nurse Sharks, this exhibit is a memorable experience.

The Living Planet Aquarium in Salt Lake City Utah recently finished its newest exhibit, “Life on the Reef.” This 1,000 gallon tank exhibit features marine life found in Indo-Pacific tropical waters. A fifth major exhibit is underway so be sure to come back in 2009 and visit the planned 7,000 square foot Journey to South America exhibit.
